I have seen so many “full moons” on various natural dye blogs but no instructions. I played around a bit a few days ago and think I figured it out. These are very small though and I am looking for ways of making them a little bigger!

love, love, love your full moons…
Your full moons are beautiful. I make mine by clamping jar lids tightly over folded cloth. I use clamps like one would use for wood working. I know some use soy wax as a resist too.
Hi Jo: love your moons : ) I’m addicted to finding ways to make these moons too – I have tried the stencil with bleach method, which works well but I’d like to achieve the shibori method with clamps and folding as a resist but have not succeeded YET !!! I love the organic look of shibori so I will continue trying : ) goood luck and if you succeed in finding an easier method hope you will post : )

I mentioned it on Jacky’s comment but all I did was place a coin on each side of the fabric and held it in place with a bulldog clip. It worked fairly well, although sometimes you can see parts of the coin design on the fabric. I want to figure out how to get the shadow effect next and I wonder whether it is possible by just moving the coin and clamp over a little. The logwood dyes so fast though that I can’t get subtle results. I might need to make a new dye!
Hi Jo, I did some indigo moons over the weekend with my freind Natima. If you visit Nat’s blog you can see how we used resists and clamps (clamped very tightly) http://notjustnat.blogspot.com/
Love your moons…how did you dye these?

Hi Jacky, Thanks so much for the link. Great blog! I clamped coins with bulldog clips, but will look for larger clamps once back in the US to experiment with different sizes. Glad to see I wasn’t too far off with my attempt!
